Does anyone have experience with Ascension 6 inch coils? 20 Nov 2022 08:34 #1

Does anyone have experience with Ascension 6 inch coils? There are not that many reviews for these coils. I am having trouble finding the 6inch Quantum Edge Elite coils.

I have read that the 6inch Ascension coils are made by Brooklyn Bedding. The coils are available at Latex Mattress Factory but they have no documentation, so I can not compare them to Quantum Edge Coils.

I am a 205 pound and 5'11. I sleep 85% on my side and 15% on my back. Would the below setup work?
  • 6 Inch Ascension Coils
  • 3 inch Medium Talalay Latex.

    Is this a better setup?
  • 6 Inch Ascension Coils
  • 2 inch hard Dunlop Latex.
  • 3 inch Medium Talalay Latex or 3 inch Soft Talalay Latex.

The reason I want these coils is because:
The are the most recommended coils for side sleepers
I see a good amount of complaints for the 8inch Quantum coil for side sleepers. The 8inch coils are too soft.
More coils then Caliber edge means less pressure points and less chance of feeling a partner move in the bed.
It is really hard finding reviews or documentation for Ascension 6inch Coils.
Spending 100-200 more above caliber edge doesn't bother me.

Has anyone had any luck finding 6 inch Quantum Edge Coils?

    HI rishik.

Welcome to our Mattress Forum. :)

You had a second post that included the last paragraph of this post, so for the sake of keeping everything in a single thread, I've merged the two posts into this single post for you.

The good news is coils are rarely the weak link in a mattress in terms of durability. However, different coils have different gauges (the lower the number the firmer the coil).

I don't have personal experience with a DIY using coils so I do hope that some of our experienced DIYers will chime in with some of their experiences.

In my house we happen to have a mattress with 6" Quantum Edge Elite coils as well as one with 6" Ascension coils. Both are very new though, so I can't comment on how either hold up longterm. They also are part of different mattress builds, and neither were DIY mattresses. So obviously the other components have a lot to do with the feeling of them too. BUT, from what I can tell, the QEE coils seem to be a lot firmer. The Ascension coils don't feel flimsy or anything, but they don't make you stop and say "wow, these coils are not messing around".

The QEE coils definitely have stronger edge support, if that's important to you. The Ascension coils have fine edge support as far as I'm concerned, but I don't sleep right up to the edge of my mattress or anything so it's not that big of a deal to me.

I like that the QEE coils feel so strong, and they're really comfortable for sitting on my bed (which I do a lot) but for side sleeping I think they require more padding than most coils would. For someone not wanting to add extra layers on top if necessary, I'd say the QEE might not be a good choice. The Ascension coils will probably fit most average-sized people's needs.

I haven't seen anywhere you can buy the 6" QEE coils by themselves either (and I have really looked too), so you'd have to want them badly enough to convince a mattress manufacturer to do a special order for you, or buy a whole mattress with them just for the coils, or something. Unless someone was extremely heavy or had some other reason they were sure they needed that firm of coils, that doesn't seem necessary.
