We just got rid of an ~9 year old Brooklyn bedding total latex mattress in medium firmness, which we loved. It started to sag and was becoming a bit more uncomfortable which is why we traded in. We replaced with a winkbeds luxury firm based on recommendation from a friend.

After about three weeks with the winkbed we are not a fan. Too firm for us and my wife is waking up with back pain. We are both mostly side sleepers, sometimes back. I am 5’11 and 230. My wife is 5’6” and 140.

We are planning to go back to a latex mattress since we had good luck before.

Based on our previous experience would a latex hybrid be OK or should we stick with full latex?

We use an adjustable base.

We are looking at Luma sleep full latex right now and have also looked at Spindle. I am concerned I may be too close to the upper weight limit for Spindle. I am having a hard time finding reviews from Luma users- anyone here have an experience to share regarding either mattress? Any other latex recs?

Thanks!

Latex mattress help- Luma? Spindle? 16 Aug 2022 12:06 #2

Hi cbmd81,

We just got rid of an ~9 year old Brooklyn bedding total latex mattress in medium firmness, which we loved. It started to sag and was becoming a bit more uncomfortable which is why we traded in. We replaced with a winkbeds luxury firm based on recommendation from a friend.

We are planning to go back to a latex mattress since we had good luck before.

Remember, any mattress is unique to the sleepers using it, based on their stats(height, BMI, sleeping position(s) and any underlying health conditions) and their PPP(posture and alignment, pressure relief and personal preferences); so the only ones who can say whether a mattress will be comfortable for you is you and your wife. Thanks for including your stats – as you have a higher BMI and you both sleep on your side & back, you will want proper support, but as you have found, too firm can cause soreness and pain. You may want to look into whether you prefer Talalay (considered ‘springier’) or Dunlop (feels more ‘cradling’)Latex – think of the feel as pound cake vs. angel food cake.
The difference in these types of latex can be the difference between comfort and discomfort.

As far as hybrid mattresses, again, best way is to try one out in a local store to see if you would enjoy the feel of the mattress before committing to san order. I will say that as both Luma Sleep and Spindle Mattress are Trusted Members of the site, I can say they are both good mattress, made with quality materials, and thy both have outstanding customer service. Either one will be able to guide you to make an informed purchase by giving them a bit of information about your preferences and needs, I will also say that you should advise them you will be using on an adjustable base, as some mattresses have definite base types that can be used for durability as well as warranty
concerns. We have many members who are using mattresses from both, hopefully they can chime in with their own personal experiences.
