My fiancé and I gravitated towards the Aireloom Maui Channel Streamline Firm Mattress. Our second choice was the Kingsdown (can’t recall the model).
We both have lower back issues, her more so than me because of her spine/nerve issues so we prefer more towards the firm side than soft. Not a fan of the mattresses that come in boxes or the memory foam so the traditional spring mattress is what we’re aiming for.

There aren’t much reviews about Aireloom since their fairly new from my understanding but I wanted to get opinions to justify the $4k price tag. Or alternative recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Aireloom Maui Channel Streamline Qs after store visit 28 Mar 2022 17:12 #2

Hi DJG, and welcome to The Mattress Underground :)

Not a fan of the mattresses that come in boxes or the memory foam so the traditional spring mattress is what we’re aiming for

I looked at the Aireloom Maui Streamline Firm, and while it seems to be solidly constructed, it appears they have a lot of HD foam, gel and viscose memory foams in the mattress. Here is what they provide:

(14”) Aireloom Maui Channel Streamline Firm Mattress
• silk/wool/HD foam quilted cover
• 6" gel/visco/HD/memory foam (unspecified amount/composition) comfort layer
• 8” tempered 13.75 gauge pocket coils with edge support

Like Kingsdown, they do not disclose densities of components and materials used, which always raises red flags. While this mattress may be comfortable for you and your fiancé, 6” of lower density gel and memory foams of undisclosed densities can break down prematurely, and leave depressions or divots on the mattress.
(Aireloom has been around for over 80 years, but were acquired by E.S. Kluft in 2004). You can read more about them in this article on The top 15 mattress manufacturers
You say you and your fiancé both have lower back pain – an innerspring may serve you well in terms of support provided that you make the correct comfort/support choice for your your PPP(Posture and alignment, Pressure relief, and personal preferences). I personally would not purchase a mattress if I did not know the quality of components within it. I’d make sure to read why this is important in our Mattress Shopping tutorial as well as the mattress specifications you need to know and mattress durability guidelines here to get a better idea of what to look for in a new mattress.

There aren’t much reviews about Aireloom since their fairly new from my understanding but I wanted to get opinions to justify the $4k price tag. Or alternative recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

One thing to keep in mind, your mattress is personal to you, and so I would not put too much stock in reviews, as these are very personal and do not tell you anything about their quality and how long they’ll last. It’s also important to test out a new mattress for yourself (and your fiancé) firstly to see if it’s supportive enough to keep your spine in neutral alignment (which is the most important criteria when purchasing a new mattress) and then to ensure comfort for your preferences. You don’t say what your stats (heights, BMIs, sleeping positions, and other health issues besides your & your fiancés spine/nerve issues) but a Latex or hybrid-latex mattress can provide additional secondary support from the latex comfort layers which may benefit the spine/nerve issues. Latex is far more resilient and would not break to the same degree as lower quality foams over time, causing uneven support as happens with lower grade memory foam. You can look through the offerings of the Trusted members ~ directory as they are fully disclosing of what is in their mattresses so that you can expect to know how long any chosen mattress might last.
They do have a number of mattresses in your price range, and most of their lineups are of excellent quality, with great customer response and full disclosure of materials. We don’t really make recommendations in terms of suitability, as the mattress will be a specific choice for you and your fiancé, but we can comment on any you are considering going forward.

Hope this helps
