I'm getting ready to buy a latex mattress bed. I'm 5'4", 147lbs, side sleeper most of the time but I suffer from lower back pain. My box spring is made of 3/8" metal slats and the gap between the slats is 3", I believe I will have to buy a new foundation/box spring appropiate for a latex bed. I have heard that hybrid latex matresses are somehow better for pressure relief than the all latex customized beds. Is this true?.

I don't know how a latex mattress feels, I'm just trusting the unbiased reviews from here and the internet, but I don't like the feeling of being stuck in a mattress and I would like to sleep on a bed somehow soft but not too firm, not sure if that is the plush feeling people talk about. I tried the medium firm mattress from Bear mattress company, and I'm returning it because it fells a little too firm for my taste and I'm also having shoulder pain and some hip pain, this matress is described as a medium firm in their website. So now I'm trying to buy the configuration F/M/S from botton to top hoping it will be a little soft and supportive as the same time. Do I have it right? Please advise.

Hey Free Spirit54,

Welcome to the Mattress Underground :) ! Thanks for your question.

I'm getting ready to buy a latex mattress bed. I'm 5'4", 147lbs, side sleeper most of the time but I suffer from lower back pain. My box spring is made of 3/8" metal slats and the gap between the slats is 3". I hope I'm doing everything right this time. The problem is that I have heard that hybrid latex matresses are somehow better for pressure relief than the all latex customized bed. Is this true?.

Congrats on your new mattress shopping journey :) ! That's a good question, Free Spirit54, and here are several thoughts to consider. A latex hybrid could be an equally good choice as a pressure relieving mattress to an all latex mattress and offer a better value from a price standpoint, latex is a premium foam and the most expensive of components in a mattress. Many hybrids offer customizable comfort layers and the manufacturer could advise on what firmnesses/ arranging would be best for your preferences. From a longevity standpoint, however, an all-latex customizable mattress would tick off both boxes of excellent pressure relief and durability. Regarding your current box spring/ foundation, you would want to check the specs of any mattress you're considering and be sure that the mattress/ warranty conditions would apply to your current set up.

Here are several Phoenix primers for your review to help get you started on your research: "Different Types and Categories of Mattresses" for comparing hybrids vs all latex construction"; a "Mattress Comfort Layers- Latex Foam" and "Mattress Support Cores- Latex" , for learning more about latex in both the comfort and support layers. You can also review the TMU trusted member directory also for a wide variety of both hybrid and all latex mattress options as well. Added bonus for our consumer subscribers: any consumer member who posts at least one question (and you have now) may receive a small discount on a product purchase as a Thanks of Support from participating TMU manufacturers/ retailers ;) .

Good luck with your research and let us know how things go.

Thanks,
