Dormio Premium Gold Nottingham Latex Mattress Review 20 Nov 2017 10:38 #1

Hi TMU,

I just wanted to post my personal experience with my purchase from Dormio.

First, I am so glad that I found this website. What started out initially as research on Casper/Endy and their endless clones. I felt like I was falling through the rabbit hole, the further I went in my research. I was getting overwhelmed and feeling like I couldn't tell what was truth and what was marketing BS.

Until I stumbled upon TMU. Then it felt like I took the red pill and everything was clear.
I knew I wanted a latex mattress, and I absolutely didn't want to go to the traditional big retailers as I had a feeling I would be getting ripped-off. But finding a local smaller retailer/manufacturer felt elusive.
That's where TMU helped save the day, for me.

Dormio organic beds was an amazing shopping experience.
I did the initial research online and on their website, I knew they would be expensive, so I figured I would aim for their entry level beds, because I thought their entry level would still be a lot better than some high end "latex" that you would find at the traditional retailers.

When my wife and I stepped into Dormio, we were greeted by Margaret at their Mississauga/Oakville location. What I thought might have been a 30-45 minute stop, ended up to be 2 hours.
Margaret was absolutely helpful with all our questions, and very patient with us. At no point did we feel pressured to buy anything. She just wanted to make sure that we had all the information we needed to make our decision. Of course Margaret told us about their current promotions, because why wouldn't a store want to make their customers aware of it, but this was only after she let us try each bed from their different lines. And with each bed, she would explain the components, and how each line differed from the other. What I loved most was that we were encouraged to lie down on the beds that we were considering, and take our time and talk it over.

Hands down this has by far been the best shopping experience I've encountered in a long while. My wife and I initially chose the Legacy Millerton model, but as Margaret was entering the order details, we changed our minds and went with the Nottingham. This was much higher than what we initially budgeted, but it felt right, plus we happened to come in during their Pre-Black Friday promotions, which offered up significant discounts, and on top of that, we got the TMU member discount added.

We haven't received the mattress yet, but I will update this thread once it arrives. I just had to put up a post right away regarding my shopping experience with Dormio.

I won't be going anywhere else for my bedding needs in the future.

I do have one question though, my bed frame is the Ikea Brimnes using the Luroy slatted bed base. Will this be enough for the Dormio mattress? My current mattress is a "natural latex" that I purchased from Sleep Country about 9 years ago. It's fairly heavy itself, but I've used it with this slatted bed base with no issues. I would prefer not having to get new slats or a mattress base if I don't need to.

Perhaps to help, I am a 5'9" lean build at 140-145lbs while my wife is 5'4" at 105-110lbs. So the both of us are fairly light.

One very excited sleeper,
Ray

Thank you for the kind words, and I am happy that the information here was helpful to you.

Congratulations on purchasing your new Dormio mattress! :cheer: As you’re aware, you certainly chose something using good quality and durable materials. And I do think highly of the products, advice and service Dormio provides.

I appreciate you taking the time to provide a detailed accounting of your shopping experience, and once you receive your mattress I hope you’ll have the time, as you stated, to provide further updates on how your new mattress is performing for you.

I do have one question though, my bed frame is the Ikea Brimnes using the Luroy slatted bed base. Will this be enough for the Dormio mattress?

No, the Luroy bowed slats, or any bowed slat system, is not recommended by Dormio for their mattresses ( see here ). I would phone Margaret back and discuss what options they think are best for your current set up.

Dormio Premium Gold Nottingham Latex Mattress Review 11 Dec 2017 11:38 #3

Hi everyone,

I just received the mattress over the past weekend and both my wife and I absolutely love our purchase!

Our setup was having the Soft layer at the bottom, Firm layer in the middle, Medium layer on top with the Extra Soft layer as the final top layer.

The mattress feels a bit firmer than what we felt at the store, so we're thinking we might need to adjust the layers to get a softer feel.

A question for you Pheonix, does it take a few days of sleepingfor the latex to acclimatize? Or what we are feeling now is how it's pretty much going to feel going forward? I don't want to change it to soft right now if the nature of latex mattress is that it'll soften up slightly over several days.

My wife and I also purchased the Dormio Organic mattress protector, my feedback on that is it's top quality materials. It's washable and dryer safe which is a plus for convenience. It's made to fit very deep mattresses, as the Nottingham is 11" but this can easily fit a 14" deep mattress.

We also purchased their organic sheet set and their organic summer duvet but we won't be using that till later. I'll update with a review when that time comes.

My wife also received their buckwheat filled Advantage pillow and she has no complaints about it at all. It's a very heavy pillow, but very adjustable, the pillow casing is organic cotton lined with wool on both sides, so top made materials.
For myself, I have the Kapok filled Dream pillow, and it's honestly the best pillow I've every purchased. I've had high end down pillows in the past, and this is hands down way better than any down/feather pillow.

The price of down pillows can reach over $100, and these alternative filled natural pillows are priced in line with that, it just makes so much more sense to purchase these other natural fill pillows. You get way better quality for it.

The both of us do not want to get out of bed. LOL.

I just wanted to say thanks again for this site, and I'll be spreading everything I've learned to my family/friends now.

Hi buddhafest,

Thanks for taking the time to provide a detailed post on your new Dormio mattress. I’m glad that you are happy with it so far! I hope you’ll be able to write back again after you’ve had the chance to sleep upon it for a while longer.

Regarding your questions about the “breaking-in” of a new mattress, you are correct that there will be a period of time where the mattress “breaks-in” a bit, as well as you adjusting and losing some of your own personal “learned alignment”. Within the mattress, the foam, even latex, can soften slightly, but the most adjustment you’d tend to notice will come from the fabric covering your mattress. Also realize that your mattress at home uses a mattress pad and fitted sheet, and this will also contribute to a slightly firmer feel than the showroom model (besides the fact that the showroom model may have already experienced some “breaking-in” from customer use). I would tend to wait at least 30 days before making up your mind regarding any potential exchanges or rearrangements of comfort layers.

I’m glad you enjoy your new pillows as well!

Dormio Premium Gold Nottingham Latex Mattress Review 30 Jan 2018 12:00 #5

Hey guys, just giving you an update on the mattress now that it's been over a month since I've been sleeping on it.

Initially our setup was put in the following order from top to bottom: S, M, F, S.

Both my wife and I found it to be firmer than we had tested in store, but we wanted to give it time to break in before me made any changes. After about 30 days, the bed still felt more firm than we would like so we changed the layers to the following from top to bottom:

S, S, F, M

This change has made a world of a difference for us. The bed feels like what we had tested in store and we are sleeping a lot better than before.

Suffice to say, we are two completely satisfied customers and we will not ever be getting anything other than natural latex mattresses.

thank you again to Mattress Underground for giving us the knowledge to buy the proper and correct mattress.

Hi buddhafest,

Thank you for your kind words and for taking the time to update us. I appreciate it!

I am glad that your new Dormio mattress serves you so well and that you found just the “sweet spot” with fine-tuning the arrangement… which is one of the advantages of a component style system.

Suffice to say, we are two completely satisfied customers and we will not ever be getting anything other than natural latex mattresses.

It is much to your credit that you took the time to do your due diligence that you are now two completely satisfied customers :) .
