Hello. I have two little girls (almost 2 and 4) who have coslept with me since birth. I've failed miserably at getting them to sleep in their own room and am hoping that a full sized bunk bed will help. (I am aware that they are too young to sleep on the top bunk and it will be off limits to them until they are ready). The bunk bed I've purchased requires mattresses that are 8.5" or less. I've read all of the posts regarding mattresses for children and was excited about the Pure Echo by My Green Mattress, but unfortunately the bunk bed version does not come in a full size. Can you please suggest other alternatives? We are in Maryland, about a hour north or DC. We currently have Purple and Nest Alexander Hybrid mattresses and are comfortable with both if it makes any difference. Many thanks!

Hi Serenity592,

Welcome to the Mattress Forum! :)

The bunk bed I've purchased requires mattresses that are 8.5" or less.

Does the lower bunk mattress also have a thickness limitation? Is there a railing on the lower bunk that is causing this thickness limit? Usually thickness limitations are for the top bunk because of safety rail considerations.

I don’t keep a record of the heights of mattresses that are discussed on the forum, as that would be much too large a task for one person to undertake. But with that being said, I did take a quick glance through the site members, and I found a few mattress offerings of 8” or less.

As you mentioned My Green Mattress, they do offer the Simple Sleep Latex at a finished height of 8”. It is available in firm or medium, and would contain materials most would consider “safe” for children. SleepEZ also has an 8” latex mattress. Mattresses.net has a 7” solid core latex mattress. FloBeds has 7” latex mattresses. The Latex Mattress Factory as a 7” latex mattress. Memory Foam Comfort has a 6” latex mattress. Nest Bedding has a thinner polyfoam mattress. Rocky Mountain Mattress has a 7” latex mattress. Sedona Sleep has a 7” polyfoam core. Sleep On Latex has a 7” latex mattress.

There are certainly other online options available as well.

Some of these mattresses are in a higher price range, and a few use polyfoam cores, so you’d want to differentiate based upon your preference for materials and price points.
