Hello!

I'm new here and am looking to purchase a new mattress for my toddler. I came across a brand called "Happsy" which makes a 100% organic mattress (www.happsy.com) and wanted to know if anyone has heard of - or tried- this brand?

Is there something I should be looking for when comparing this with something like the Natural Escape mattress from My Green Mattress?

Thanks so much!

Hi sidecar1,

Welcome to the Mattress Forum! :)

I'm new here and am looking to purchase a new mattress for my toddler. I came across a brand called "Happsy" which makes a 100% organic mattress

Thanks for bringing them up, as they haven’t been mentioned here before on the forum. While I can’t help you with “what” to choose, I can offer some color about the Happsy and the certifications (the mattress isn’t “100% organic”, but does have organic certifications).

Happsy is a mattress made by Naturepedic. The GOTS and GOLS certifications are registered under their name. The owner of the Happsy trademark is J1B LLC

and the registered agent’s address is the same as the Naturepedic factory in Ohio.

The mattress uses a pocketed spring unit, on top of which is 2” of 100% NR Dunlop latex. I believe only one softness of Dunlop is offered, but they do not list the ILD or plushness rating. There is a wool batting on the top layer. They offer a 2” “soft” Dunlop topper for extra softness. The latex is GOLS certified and the cotton and wool are both GOTS certified.

This mattress uses good quality and durable materials, comparable to many of the pocketed coil / latex hybrid mattresses that are becoming more popular.

The My Green Mattress Natural Escape uses a zoned pocketed coil spring unit with firmer springs along the edge. On top of this is 3” of 100% NR Dunlop latex, topper with wool. The latex is GOLS certified and the cotton is GOTS certified and the wool is Oeko-Tex certified. This mattress also uses good quality and durable materials.

Both mattresses use good quality materials and in essence you’re choosing between “good” and “good”. The My Green Mattress offers one more inch of latex and presently is $100 less than the Happsy (queen size), so it certainly would be worthy of your consideration. And My Green Mattress is a member here of the site, which means that I think highly of them and their products. Naturepedic does also offer good quality products.

Is there a way to know if the wool is treated or pure?

Hi Zana,

Is there a way to know if the wool is treated or pure?

I’m not sure exactly how you’re defining “pure” or “treated”, but their wool is GOTS certified and you can read through what GOTS certification allows here. ADMIN NOTE:Removed 404 page link | Archived Footprint: global-standard.org/images/GOTS_Documents/GOTS_Standard_5.0.pdf
Section 2.4.5 talks about pre-treatment and other wet processing stages, and section 2.4.9 speaks to allowable additional fibres that can be added and in what percentages.

As for the specifics of the wool they use wool, I would phone Happsy or Naturepedic directly and I’m sure they would be more than happy to explain how their wool is washed and treated and address your specific concerns at that time. Naturepedic tends to be quite open and helpful about such topics.
