I decided to check out Costco online and discovered they sell all natural latex mattresses and adjustable bases. Looking into because Costco has the best return policy (return for a refund at any time). I called South Bay International (who makes the SS line) and he mentioned that there is fiber glass in the sleeve around the latex and then the cover is organic cotton, polyester and spandex. Just wondering if anyone has experience with these beds and also if fiberglass is a common component...sounds very strange but worth the research because of the return policy. South Bay Int is also centri pure certificed and they use 100% talalay latex from Talalay Global.

Hi soccerlover17,

Has anyone purchased a SleepScience latex bed from Costco

While other people's comments about the knowledge and service of a particular business can certainly be very helpful ... I would be very cautious about about using other people's experiences or reviews on a mattress (either positive or negative) as a reliable source of information or guidance about how you will feel on the same mattress or how suitable or how durable a mattress may be for you and in many if not most cases they can be more misleading than helpful because any mattress that would be a perfect choice for one person or even a larger group of people may be completely unsuitable for someone else to sleep on (see post #13 here ).

You can see some more detailed comments about the Sleep Science 9" Talalay latex mattress and it's "relative" value compared to other similar mattresses that have more firmness and customization options and are in lower budget ranges along with some of the pros and cons of buying a mattress from Costco in this topic . A forum search on sleep science latex 9 costco will also bring up more comments and feedback about it as well.

Since the mattress is latex ... it wouldn't be CertiPUR certified (which is a certification that is only used for polyurethane foam materials) but the latex in the mattress is Oeko-Tex certified. There is more about some of the different 'safety" certifications in post #2 here .

It's certainly not unusual to see fiberglass in an inherent fire barrier either by itself or in combination with other materials ( see here for an example) and it can be used as part of the quilting in the cover or as a sock that encloses the foam layers in a mattress. There is some fairly detailed and technical information about fiberglass inherent fire barriers in this patent application although this is probably more technical than you may want to know. It is a "non chemical" fire barrier and for most people it would be "safe enough" although some people may not be completely comfortable with the possibility (probably quite low) of some of the very fine fiberglass particles migrating through the mattress and being inhaled.

Their latex is almost certainly the blended Talalay latex made by Talalay Global (which used to be called Latex International) that is made from a blend of 30% natural and 70% synthetic rubber.
