Three weeks ago I bought Evo Sleep Bio-Temp Ambiance Luxury Plus queen for my guest room. The mattress has still an unpleasant smell that fills up the room. It is weaker now than when I first got the mattress but after three weeks it is still noticeably there; this worries me also because I am not sure what am I inhaling. Please give me your thoughts on that. Also, strings are coming unraveled from the mattress top where the surface is stitched down in a shape of small squares -1.5”x1.5” - to give it a matelasse’ look. Is this important? I am not sure what to do. Thank you very much, Alex.

Hi Evian,

To the best of my knowledge Sherwood Bedding uses foams that are made in North America or are CertiPur certified (which test for harmful substances or VOC's) so the odor that is connected to a new mattress wouldn't be a concern for most people unless you were much more sensitive than the large majority of people. The smell of a new mattress will normally be reduced to a level that you won't notice in a few weeks (although yours is taking a little longer than normal). There are a few suggestions in post #3 here that may help as well.

Also, strings are coming unraveled from the mattress top where the surface is stitched down in a shape of small squares -1.5”x1.5” - to give it a matelasse’ look. Is this important? I am not sure what to do. Thank you very much, Alex.

This is also not unusual with a quilted mattress and the quilting machines they use (see the video here ) and would be similar to buying clothing where there are some loose threads in the hems. It would normally be safe to cut any loose threads but it may be a good idea to check with your retailer (and possibly send them pictures) to make sure that they are just a few loose threads and not a manufacturing defect.
