I visited a Sleep Number store today and checked out their Dual Temp mattress cover which can circulate cold or warm air between a person and the mattress. The only reviews I could find online seem to be from people who got them for free in exchange for posting a review.

When I tied it at the store, the warm side was really warm and the cool side was definitely cooler then the rest of the room. I could hear the fans over the music playing in the store but, I can live with that.

The only alternative product I could find is the ChiliPad which circulates water instead of blowing air. While the ChiliPad is cheaper and quieter, I read a few reviews on Amazon that mentioned leaks...

Please share your experiences with the Dual Temp. I would love to know what you think of it.

Hello Remento... I'm in the shopping phase for a new mattress also. I have been reading up on many different brands, including Sleep Number. One of the primary complaints about them in general is that the air pumps are louder than owners thought they would be and sound much louder in their bedrooms than at the store.

I know you are only shopping for the topper but do consider that the noise will probably seem much louder in the quietness of your bedroom at night than what you heard in the store over the volume of the music. The concept on this topper sounds great however and I hope you find something that works for you.

Hi Harper,

While I don't have any specific experience with it ... I would be very skeptical about paying this much (more than some good quality mattresses) for an "active" temperature regulating topper. While I don't normally suggest paying a lot of attention to mattress reviews ... with products like this that are less subjective in nature reviews can be well worth reading and the reviews on the sleep number site are no exception. They are decidedly negative and several of the more positive reviews are from people who only tested it in a store as part of a smiley360 campaign and haven't even purchased or slept on it.

I would also want to know the specific material inside it and how likely it would be to maintain it's comfort without softening or degrading because this would be a very high price to pay for a topper that didn't maintain it's comfort level over the years (and there are several comments about the materials inside it bunching up with more restless sleepers).

At the very least ...if I was in the market for a mattress pad that can cool down a mattress and more traditional methods of temperature regulation weren't effective enough (such as a wool topper or other temperature regulating materials) I think I would wait till it's been perfected or until some "competitors" are released at a more reasonable cost.
