Thanks Phoenix. I searched on the site and had seen your post on deciding between two good choices. Thank you for the great site, all the information, advice and feedback.

I have a St. Dormeirs mattress protector on the way. Based on the reviews I decided to order a set of Bamboo Sheets which just arrived. The new bed is shipping (maybe delivered) this week. So it was time to make a decision on the mattress.

I spent time earlier today search the site for feedback and reviews on Select Foam. What I read was positive. I also spent some time on their sites Select Foam is more open and straightforward on the materials used in the mattress. With the sale Select Foam currently has we are looking at ~35% price difference (assuming they honor the 5% discount along with their sale price). That is a heck of a difference for a mattress that is at least comparable quality.

Now I have not spoken to Select Foam as they appeared to be closed today. Or at least they did not respond to my IM. I traded IM's on several occasions with Brooklyn Bedding and they were very helpful and friendly. That being I have no reason to expect anything different from Select Foam.

I believe I have made my decision and Select Foam is the winner in my case. The plan is to speak with them on Monday, verify the price, and place an order.

I had forgotten on a trip the wife and I had slept on a Memory Foam Mattress at a Marriott for 1.5 weeks and we both slept better than normal. This and my experience with latex today lead me to believe that I the Gel Memory Foam mattress is going to be the right decision.

Now I just need to find Pillows we like. I have tried probably 10 different pillows over the years and keep going back to a thin, cheap, old poly fill pillow. We both liked the latex pillows we tried out today but it is a night of sleep (or a couple weeks of sleep) on the pillows that has always fallen short when I try for something new

Select Foam has a series of "rotating sales" which really don't change in terms of "value" except the specifics may be different so their "sale price" is really their "regular price". Their main site is the one that has the most accurate information although there are still some site revisions that they are working on.

They have also put some care and thought into approximating the Tempurpedic line in terms of the feel, design, and quality of materials so you can test the local Tempurpedic mattresses for PPP to get a good idea of how they feel and perform and which one would be most suitable for you.

Pillows are one of the most subjective parts of a sleeping system and a big part of a pillow choice is based on personal preferences (although there are some basic "needs" as well based on sleeping position and body type) but the pillow thread here has some good information and links to resources about pillows and may be helpful.

Phoenix - you are correct about me posting to the wrong thread. I was bitching about the website losing my post then discovered it was user error.

While I have spoken mainly about Latex Mattresses in this thread I started off looking at and planning to get a Memory Foam mattress. After researching and your advice I came to the conclusion that a Latex mattress was the way to go if it would work for us. Granted we only test drove two latex mattresses but they did not meet our experiences with memory foam.

While with more shopping I might have been able to find a better fit latex I have already spent significant time on this search and I am ready for a good nights sleep.

My shopping experience with Brooklyn Bedding was better than I experienced with Select Foam. I am not saying I had a bad experience just that it was better at Brooklyn. On the other hand I did not have as many questions for Select Foam as their website contained all the key information. While others are correct in their statement that the website could use updating/work at least it contained significant information and it was easy for us to match up against the Tempurepedic we liked.

Given the reputation of both vendors, the information I had at hand, and the price differential I placed an order with Select Foam for their Cirrus Supreme. Along with their "sale" they applied the Mattress Underground discount. This got me out the door significantly less than I expected to pay when I first started shopping.

A new bed, mattress, and protector are on their way. I am looking forward to assembling everything and getting a good nights sleep.

I will post my review of the mattress once I receive it and make updates as time passes.

Now to start research on those pesky pillows. I am thinking of trying a very soft latex pillow.

I'm glad that the post wasn't "lost" but only temporarily "misplaced". I've lost many forum posts over the years on various forums due to a combination of session timeouts and temporary loss of wireless connections (and forgetting to copy them before I click submit) and I know how frustrating it can be to have a long post vanish into thin air.

I'm looking forward to hearing about your experience once you've had the chance to sleep on it.

Phoenix- I think you have a great forum here. I have gotten great value from it and you have probably saved me from making the same mistake I made with my last mattress. I have referred several friends to my site to use as a reference point.

Please, please post again when you get your mattress from Select Foam & write about your delivery, customer service, & esp. your mattress experience!

We are preparing to return an iComfort Prodigy to a local big-box store with their 365-day exchange guarantee (I will elaborate on which store and how it goes when it is completed). According to their policy, we can exchange our mattress set for another, paying only a delivery/pickup fee, and receive a refund on--or pay--the price difference of another, but with no further exchange/refund. Unfortunately, the only mattress we really liked was the TempurPedic Cloud Luxe, and I am not excited about paying an additional $2K for it. (I'm hoping we will be able to buy a cheap mattress our young son likes & get ourselves out of the deal with a good refund so we can look for ours elsewhere!)

Our problem with the iComfort Prodigy seems to be either that my hips sink too far in & hit the "slow recovery" foam layer, which is too firm for my hips, or that the memory foam layers are too firm, also hurting my shoulder, or maybe a little of both (?). 11 months later, and I know my pain isn't just me--my back or my arthritis, or the cold winter; my hubby is getting sore & stiff, too. I also feel the Prodigy 'relax' a bit when he gets up & firm up again when he returns to bed. I had disc surgery a year before we got it & spent 9 months re-fluffing a tri-folded feather comforter on our BAD mattress ("Sleeptronic") for a little comfort with its bad support; and I did a lot of trial research to find what I thought would be a good bed. But not enough research--I didn't find this site

So now I know a TON of GOOD info on comfort, support, materials, construction, quality, value, PPP...... I took lots of printouts with us to our visit at the big-box retailer! They didn't like us as much this time ;>, thanks to Phoenix . . .no really, THANKS!!

Long story long: the Cirrus-Luxe ES looks like it may be a great comparative mattress for us, but I am still concerned about some things I read about & from Select Foam, especially on other review sites & blogs & even the BBB (which shows 22 complaints with 14 resolved acceptably, 6 not acceptably, 2 not at all--I know not to put too much into that, but still...and I know that people who rant on complaint blogs/comments aren't usually the most reliable info sources). Their responses to some of those people were usually courteous & apologetic, but sometimes included all-caps statements of frustration at the customer (understandable, but...). However, the info on their site looks good, the price on the bed looks good, esp. with the "sale" & no shipping/return ship & 90-day return policy...it even looks too good to be true. So I'm hesitant, and my hubby is rather skeptical.

So I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience, AMG_Roadster, especially being so very recent. We have just a couple of weeks to complete our exchange/refund/purchase, and my nights of tossing & turning are now filled with frantic mattress searching dreams, LOL!

I am not too worried about the issues with the BBB. For me they either honor their 90 day return policy or I take the issue up with the credit card. Now I hope I don't need to use either but it is nice to know I have options if needed.

To me knowing that they use quality materials carries much more weight than the reviews. Bed in a Box has great reviews and a stellar BBB rating. However I have a friend that had one of their mattresses and thought it was great for the first 6 months - 1 year. After that he began to experience issues and ended up purchasing a new mattress from another source. He opened the Bed in a Box mattress and commented that the material used was very cheap/low quality.

I am hoping that I do not have a similar experience with this mattress. The warranty may sound great to some people - replacement if there is an impression of more than .75 of an inch. However .75 is quite a bit of "sag". I really would expect to not be able to sleep on the mattress with significantly less impression.

I am looking forward to your feedback about buying from Select Foam. We're narrowing down to latex or a Tempurpedic/comparable--and theirs looks like one of the best options.

The BBB listing was just a moderate flag for me, and I know to read between the lines of posts from angry consumers. I also figure if an overwhelming percentage of reviewers on various sites had positive experiences (and don't sound like a salesperson), the product/business is likely to have about the same percentage odds of being positive for me. The reviews I found for Select Foam & some of their mattress types were indeed largely positive.

I do like SelectFoam's stated exchange/return/shipping & warranty policies, too. I read a warranty statement from another mattress retailer the other day that said 1 and 1/2 inch impression was necessary! Yikes (wish I could remember whose that was)! Might as well be sleeping in a hammock at that point!

Okay it has been awhile and I had expected the mattress to ship by now. I was told that I would either receive a tracking number or a reason for the delay but up to this point I have received neither. I am not worried about losing money but I like to know what is going on and be able to plan. I am trying to balance the delivery of a bed and a mattress. The bed has arrived.

From my experience the BBB has a questionable history. You are much better relying on your credit card.

I am hoping the mattress arrives shortly. We based our selection on a local experience. Although I would have been hesitant if Select Foam did not offer a 90 sleep guarantee.
