if you have a medium and firm layers and you switch their places you will certainly get extra firmness, but it may not work the way you like.

i for example have a 50 ILD layer of foam on top of a relatively softer spring mattress and having a firm foam on top makes the entire thing much firmer - so you CAN make something firmer by putting a firmer layer on top of it, but it doesn't exactly feel very classy.

Phoenix seems to like the idea of "dominating layer" but my personal opinion is that it's the wrong way to go.

i would rather buy from a retailer that will take the foam back than rely on putting soft layers on the bottom and hard layers on top.

everybody wants to make mattresses thicker to impress the customers in the showroom - and this is easy to do by simply lowering foam density - basically adding more air which doesn't cost anything. so you end up paying for air and sleeping on the floor :)

next time you're shopping for a mattress find out how much it weighs, and compare to other ones. the mattress i'm building will weigh about 10 pounds per inch of thickenss in Queen size.

they took $168 for a 2" x 60" x 80" piece of 3.0 LB HR foam which should have weighed 16 pounds ( 3.0 LBS x 60 in x 80 in x 2 in / 12 in / 12 in / 12 in = 16.6 LBS ) plus packing materials and delivered me a package which weighs 5 lbs and 3 oz ( i weighed it with two separate digital scales, plus the UPS label says 5 lbs ). foamonline told me they don't give a rat's ass and basically go to hell - you can't return it - you can't get your money back.

my other toppers ranging from 2" to 3" thickness had ups shipping weights of 25 lbs, 30 lbs, 30 lbs and 39 lbs, and the two which i weighed were 22 and 28 lbs. i actually broke one of my scales weighing one of them - when i held it up and stood on the scale it literally cracked under our combined weight - that's how heavy REAL foam is. on the other hand i was able to weigh the foamonline package on my OXO food scale thats used to weigh things like a single strawberry. and i still only used up less than half of that food scale's capacity. i weighed it using bathroom scale as well ( the thinner brand, i broke the seca brand ) but as i said there were no major surprises there - it weighs 5 pounds.

in fact the day it arrived i was 100% sure it was my snugfleece wool - because of how light and small it was - but when the snuglfeece actually came it was both larger and heavier than this supposedly 2" thick 3LB foam.

now this ( them hanging up on me ) was on monday. before that when i called on friday they said "call back on monday" so when i called back on monday they told me to go to hell. well it could have been worse - they could have said - call back on friday !

i knew these people were hopeless but i never thought they would actually hang up on me ...

his actual words were "i will only repeat this one more time, there is nothing i can do for you, i'm gone" and then he hung up.

you decide if you want to do business with this company !

my personal opinion is we should have a sub-forum dedicated to user experiences with various vendors, with each major vendor having their own subforum within the subforum. i suppose that will never happen though.

Hi g1981c,

As you well know there is much more to this story including your attempts to lie and manipulate in order to get products at a discount that you are not disclosing and including your efforts to complain to the BBB (who consider your complaint resolved because they are aware of your real agenda) and Consumer affairs who also don't believe you and are questioning your "legitimacy" to put it kindly.

This is as far as I also intend to go with you and your constant trolling of the forum and posting this kind of agenda based misinformation and after multiple warnings ... you are now banned. You can build your social life elsewhere in other venues but you have lost all your credibility ... and posting privileges here.

Wow. Phoenix, you are much more of a patient person than me. I would have banned that guy after his first few spewings of vitriol. Let him go somewhere else for sure. Your ban of him convinces me even more that I have come to the right place for information.
