Phoenix,

Your site has been invaluable to us. Thanks for the post re: manufacturers near Winston-Salem.

I think we are going to purchase from Lake Mattress, in Mooresville, but wanted to know your thoughts about their new GelComfort-100.

These are the specs:

.25'' Modena Fabric
3.0'' Gel-Memory Foam
1.0'' HDX Visco Memory Foam
3.0'' Soy transition foam
3.0'' Soy base foam

Any insight you could give would be helpful.

Thanks.

Hi slicm,

The description you've provided is just a generic description of the materials and doesn't provide any information about the quality of each layer. If you could ask them for the specific density of all the foam layers and the type of the gel memory foam they are using as well then I could give you a more meaningful assessment of the quality of the layers. The odds are good that all of it is good quality but I would always request this information anyway no matter where I ws buying from just to make sure there isn't any obvious weak links in the mattress.

Phoenix,

Thanks for all your help. All their foam is sourced from Future Foam (in High Point, NC).
Both memory foam layers are 4lb. The transitions layer is 24/23 ild, the base layer is 24/36 ild.

Thanks again. Any insight would be helpful.

Hi slicm,

Future Foam is an American foam manufacturer which I would consider good quality and they are Certipur certified.

ILD ratings are a measure of softness or firmness and not a measure of quality or durability. The density of the foam is what determines it's quality. Your body will 'feel" the ILD's when you are testing mattresses whether you know them or not so with local testing knowing the ILD's isn't important but it's always the quality of the foam layers that are important to know. Lake Mattress tends to use high quality foams (and they've always disclosed the density when I've talked with them) but I would want to know the specifics of any mattress I purchased just as a matter of course so you never need to make a blind purchase.
