chemical FR treatments

Treated Fire-Retardant Fabrics are chemically treated textiles and foams that have a much slower burning rate when exposed to fire. The chemicals used to treat fabrics belong to several treatment classes including: brominated, chlorinated, phosphorus-containing, nitrogen-containing, and inorganic flame retardants. Many flame-retardant chemicals are also known as PBDE’s or polybrominated diphenyl ethers some of which have been banned due to their high toxic effects. For material safety data consult the Center for Disease Control’s Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry’s Web site for more information at: http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/toxfaqs/tf.asp?id=900&tid=183
